About the role
About the Role
As a principal software developer serving as the AI capability leader for Corporate IT or Claims IT at Progressive Insurance, you will drive the enablement, adoption, and advancement of AI technologies across the division. You will partner closely with business leaders and technical teams to equip them with practical AI tools, platforms, and guidance. Your goal is to improve productivity, accelerate delivery, and unlock high-value AI use cases across enterprise functions.
Key Responsibilities
Your scope includes generative AI platforms and patterns, such as AI agents and agentic workflows, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, enterprise LLM APIs, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). You will also focus on predictive AI and machine learning platforms (Blacklodge / MLCore). A strong emphasis will be placed on adoption, knowledge-sharing, and partnership across enterprise teams.
You will champion scalable, responsible AI practices and foster a culture of experimentation and innovation. This role enables teams to integrate AI into their everyday workflows. You will help define and advance Corporate IT or Claims IT’s AI enablement strategy, identify and prioritize impactful AI opportunities, and build reusable patterns, guidance, and resources.
You will collaborate with other Capability Leaders to drive the optimization and advancement of IT capabilities & architecture, enabling Business and IT Strategy.
Qualifications
Must-have Qualifications:
- Minimum of 11 years related work experience programming and supporting software applications.
- OR The completion of a technical training program and 8 years related work experience programming and supporting software applications.
- OR Bachelor's Degree or higher in an Information Technology related field of study and 8 years related work experience programming and supporting software applications.
Preferred Skills
- Experience enabling and scaling AI tool adoption across enterprise technology teams, including developer productivity tools and AI-enabled platforms.
- Proficiency in integrating AI/ML solutions into applications across a range of architectures and platforms, including private and public cloud environments, web and desktop applications, and modern .NET solutions.
- Ability to identify, evaluate, and prioritize AI use cases in partnership with business, operations, and systems teams to deliver measurable value.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to explain AI concepts and opportunities to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven success guiding teams through AI enablement, including training, coaching, experimentation, and practical implementation.
- Experience collaborating across Corporate IT or Claims IT, and business stakeholders to align AI initiatives with organizational goals.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: $166,000-$200,000/year depending on experience. Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 50% of your eligible earnings based on company performance.
