Overview
The Client Portfolio Manager - Fixed Income role at Principal Financial Group acts as a key liaison between portfolio management and Principal Fixed Income’s clients worldwide. The role focuses on advocating for our global fixed income platform and delivering a best-in-class client experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for and commercially advance Principal’s global fixed income platform.
- Serve as the primary investment expert for the U.S. Retail/Wealth channel.
- Collaborate with portfolio management teams to drive measurable growth.
- Deliver impactful investment thought-leadership and consistent messaging.

Principal Fixed Income manages U.S. $150.7 billion in assets and spans all major fixed income sectors. The team leverages global investment centers and over 80 investment professionals to access markets worldwide.
Who You Are
- 8+ years in asset management, client portfolio management, or related investment experience.
- Undergraduate degree in a finance-related field.
- Extensive fixed income market and asset management industry knowledge.
- Strong relationship building, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to lead meetings and strategic decision-making.
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
- CFA or MBA credentials are a plus.
- Deep knowledge across fixed income sectors, including high yield and investment grade.
- Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and technical skills using Bloomberg, Aladdin Suite, and similar platforms.
- Ability to manage high work volume and meet tight deadlines.
- This position requires extensive travel.
Salary and Benefits
Base salary ranges from $153000 to $207000 per year. Additional bonus and sales incentives may apply based on performance. The position offers Flexible Time Off (FTO) for salaried employees.
