Job Description

Assistant Director, Digital Content and UX Strategist

The Digital Customer Experience team at Principal Financial Group is seeking a seasoned Content & UX Strategy Lead to define, elevate, and optimize how millions of customers engage with our .com properties and mobile app. This highly visible role is central to the business, blending content strategy and experience design to create more meaningful, effective customer interactions.

You will lead content and experience teams for priority initiatives, leveraging AI‑driven insights, intelligent content systems, and scalable processes to deliver digital experiences that are both trustworthy and high‑performing for a Fortune 250 financial services brand. This role partners closely with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams across marketing, product, technology, agencies, and compliance to ensure content and experience deliver against brand and business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead content and UX strategy across corporate digital experiences and the mobile app, in partnership with business stakeholders focused on delivering customer outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a team of content publishers and UX designers, balancing hands‑on guidance with strategic direction.
  • Effectively oscillate between content operations (publishing, governance, quality) and experience strategy (journeys, information architecture, optimization), ensuring both move in lockstep while partnering across the CX team.
  • Develop scalable content frameworks and messaging architectures that enable consistency, personalization, and quality at enterprise scale.
  • Leverage AI‑powered platforms to A/B test, optimize, and improve content engagement, fostering a continuous‑improvement mindset.
  • Partner with design, product, analytics, technology, and compliance teams to translate insights into actionable experience improvements.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders while mentoring teams on modern content, UX, and AI‑assisted workflows.

Who You Are

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
  • 9+ years of experience in content strategy, content writing, UX strategy, or product experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading content and UX strategy teams for enterprise‑scale websites and mobile applications.
  • Deep expertise in content and user experience strategy and delivery, with the ability to shape end‑to‑end customer journeys.
  • Strong command of customer‑centered storytelling and content design principles.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data and research to drive decision‑making.
  • Ability to set strategy and lead teams while fostering the right cultural dynamics through both leadership and consultative approaches.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship‑management skills across business partners and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build trust and followership across the organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG), SEO best practices, design platforms (Figma, Adobe), and enterprise content management systems.
  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating in agile product teams and complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Track record of partnering with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience working in federated models and high‑change environments is a plus.
