About the Role

The Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX at Pratt Institute is dedicated to ensuring a fair, thorough, and equitable response to all reports of discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, and related sexual misconduct. The Institutional Equity Investigator and Case Management Specialist reports to the Director of Institutional Equity and Title IX/Title IX Coordinator, serving in a highly visible and impactful role. This position collaborates extensively with Human Resources, Student Affairs, General Counsel, and other campus partners to support community members affected by discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.

This specialist will serve as the primary investigator for internal equity-related investigations and assist the Director in leading a coordinated, institution-wide approach to compliance with Title VI, Title IX, and related state and federal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate formal complaints of prohibited conduct under Title IX, Nondiscrimination, and Anti-Harassment policies involving employees and students at Pratt Institute.
  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations, developing and maintaining reasonable investigation timelines.
  • Coordinate and track case/investigation-related communications.
  • Develop and prepare comprehensive reports based on factual findings, applicable laws and Institute policies, summaries of allegations, witness interviews, and recommendations.
  • Conduct disclosure and intake interviews with persons reporting sexual misconduct, discrimination, and/or harassment, addressing immediate safety needs, communicating support services, and facilitating contact with resources.
  • Identify and collaborate with other departments to implement interim measures or accommodations and document all incidents and communications.
  • Assist the Director with compliance education and awareness initiatives related to Title VI, Title IX, and other anti-discrimination laws.
  • Assist the Director in the creation and/or maintenance of online and print departmental communications and databases.
  • Serve as the Institute-designated Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across campus, law enforcement, and local agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to prevention and response.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to Title VI, Title IX, and other related laws to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations.
  • Represent the Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX and the Institute at campus and community committees, programs, and events.
  • Participate in other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Previous experience in a college or university setting.
  • Proven knowledge of the complexities surrounding student conduct, sexual misconduct, and an understanding and sensitivity to the effects of trauma.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proven track record of providing support for students and employees, including the ability to build trust, ensure privacy, and collaborate effectively.
  • Project management experience and demonstrated organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience conducting intake and informational meetings with persons seeking assistance, incorporating trauma-informed, culturally informed, and identity-responsive practices.
  • Ability to take accurate notes and provide clear information about individual options.
  • Detail-oriented in communication, writing, and organizational skills for preparing and delivering presentations, reports, correspondence, and programs for diverse audiences.
  • Two or more years of experience investigating sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and/or gender-related violence or discrimination in a higher education setting or related field.
  • Title IX Investigator training certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Strong investigatory skills and demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to interpret, applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to sexual misconduct and discrimination in campus environments, including Title VI, Title IX, NYS Article 129B, VAWA, Campus SaVE, and the Clery Act.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Google Workspace, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master’s degree or other advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in civil rights compliance, particularly with Title VI, Title IX, and discrimination in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent project management and assessment skills, including managing a complex workload.
  • Experience facilitating training workshops for students and employees.
  • Familiarity with Maxient or similar software.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, fostering a welcoming yet challenging environment.
