About the Role
The S&T Product Development Chemist and Test Engineer will help grow PPG’s global Passive Fire Protection (PFP) business by developing new coatings, supporting certification testing, and working closely with technical, commercial, and marketing teams worldwide. This role acts as a key link between R&D and the Global Specification, Testing & Certification team to bring innovative PFP solutions to market quickly and safely.
What You Will Do
- Develop and test premium PFP coatings including cellulosic and hydrocarbon types.
- Prepare and follow up on test packages with internal labs and external institutes.
- Participate in furnace fire testing and calibration activities.
- Support global product development projects and agile innovation initiatives.
- Transfer test results to S&T, product management, and commercial teams.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Stewardship, Operations, and Procurement.
- Drive innovation and contribute to new intellectual property.
- Promote safety and ensure compliance with PPG policies in all labs.
- Travel domestically and internationally as required.
What You Bring
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Passive Fire Protection technologies.
- Strong understanding of fire testing standards (EN/BS, UL, ASTM, etc.).
- Experience in R&D, product development, scale‑up, or manufacturing.
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (BS/MS/PhD).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to build strong global relationships.
- Business awareness and comfort with managing technical risks.
