Overview

Portland State University is Oregon’s most affordable public research university located in downtown Portland. The Director of Research Integrity and Compliance Programs oversees operations and staff supporting research integrity and regulatory compliance programs, ensuring adherence to federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee research integrity programs including human and animal subjects protections, biosafety, financial conflict of interest, research security, export controls and more.
  • Supervise research integrity professionals and manage review committees (IRB, IACUC, IBC).
  • Coordinate review and approval of research protocols and disclosures from University investigators.
  • Maintain federal assurances, registrations and resolve non-compliance issues.
  • Negotiate collaborative agreements with external research partner institutions.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Applicants must have a Master’s degree with six years or a Bachelor’s degree with eight years of experience in research compliance. Management experience of three or more years is required. Deep knowledge of applicable regulations (45 CFR 46, Animal Welfare Act, recombinant DNA guidelines) is essential. Experience in higher education research compliance and preferably CIP Certification is valued.

Work Environment and Benefits

This role is based on campus in downtown Portland with a five-day on-site work requirement.
