Job Overview: Cybersecurity Engineer

Plan A Technologies is looking for an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer to help implement, maintain, and monitor the cloud network security systems and core security technologies. In this role, you will support the day-to-day operational security needs of the organization, ensuring strong visibility, reliable defenses, and continuous improvement of our security posture. Please note: you must have at least 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering to be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security Systems Implementation & Maintenance: Implement and maintain the cloud network security systems across AWS and related environments. Configure and support IDS/IPS, firewalls, endpoint security tools, and other core security technologies. Perform routine updates, patching, tuning, and optimization of security tools. Maintain secure cloud network configurations in alignment with established baselines.
  • Alert Monitoring & Incident Support: Monitor security alerts, logs, and detection systems on a daily basis. Investigate alerts and escalate incidents following defined processes and SLAs. Support incident response activities, including triage, containment, documentation, and reporting. Assist in maintaining and refining operational runbooks and playbooks.
  • Security Tech Stack Oversight: Ensure the reliability and performance of the client's security technology stack, including monitoring, detection, and logging platforms. Participate in security tool integrations and enhancements. Collaborate with engineering and IT teams to support secure configurations and consistent logging.
  • Logging, Monitoring & Visibility: Maintain centralized logging and monitoring solutions to ensure full infrastructure and endpoint coverage. Tune alerts and detection rules to improve fidelity and reduce false positives. Contribute to dashboards, metrics, and reporting that strengthen security awareness.
  • Operational Support & Collaboration: Work closely with the Lead Cybersecurity Engineer to execute project work, operational tasks, and continuous improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement security best practices. Maintain documentation, procedures, and security knowledge bases.

Required Experience & Skills

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, security operations, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred), including IAM, VPC, networking, and logging.
  • Familiarity with IDS/IPS, firewalls, endpoint security tools, and cloud security controls.
  • Hands-on experience with alert monitoring, log analysis, and basic incident response.
  • Understanding of core security principles (least privilege, segmentation, defense-in-depth).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with SIEM/SOAR or cloud-native monitoring tools.
  • Exposure to incident response workflows and threat analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Solid written and verbal English skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work attitude.
  • Initiative and drive to do great things.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Certifications such as Security+, CySA+, AWS Security Specialty, or GIAC are a plus.
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, Bash) is a plus.

Benefits & Work Environment

This is a 100% remote role, with the option to work from one of our global offices. You'll join an excellent team of supportive engineers and project managers who work hard but don't ever compete with each other. Benefits include a generous vacation schedule, a brand new laptop, and other goodies.
