About the Tax Analyst Role

Pirate Ship is seeking a Tax Analyst, also known as the First Mate of the Treasure Ledger. You will help prepare and maintain tax documents for a dynamic ecommerce business enabling cost savings for small businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Mapping the Tax Waters: Prepare federal, state, and local tax workpapers and returns for partnership/multi-member LLCs, including maintaining organized records.
  • Treasure Counting and Reporting: Oversee 1099 filing, payroll tax coordination, expense reimbursements, and compile quarterly/annual report data.
  • Parley with External Navigators: Communicate with external tax preparers and auditors, manage tax notice responses, and assist in routine compliance.
  • Ship-to-Ship Communications: Manage the finance inbox, address invoice discrepancies, and support documentation for external preparers.
  • Ship's Property Ledger: Maintain fixed asset records, track depreciation in Xero, and support annual asset verification.
  • Improving Ship's Operations: Identify process improvements, streamline tax tasks, and document procedures.
  • Special Voyages and Strategic Expeditions: Contribute to merger & acquisition projects and business restructuring tasks.
  • Cross-Training of the Crew: Collaborate with Accounting and FP&A teams to build comprehensive financial understanding.

Work Environment & Culture

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in partnership taxation
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA license
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax codes for partnership LLCs
  • Analytical, organizational, and strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace

Bonus Qualifications

  • International (Germany) Tax Experience
  • Advanced degree in Taxation
  • Experience with Xero accounting software
  • Ability to speak like a pirate

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $75,000-$82,500 USD per year plus performance bonus
  • 144 hours of accrued vacation
