About the Role
Piper Companies is seeking an experienced Azure Landing Zone / Platform Engineer to support a strategic data center migration to Microsoft Azure for a healthcare payer organization. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing Azure platform foundations to ensure that every workload migrates to the cloud in a secure, compliant, consistent, and scalable manner.
The engineer will own enterprise landing zone standards, subscription and resource governance, and reusable infrastructure patterns, enabling application and infrastructure teams to onboard workloads efficiently while meeting healthcare regulatory requirements (HIPAA/HITECH).
Responsibilities of the Landing Zone Engineer:
- Design, implement, and manage Azure landing zone architectures aligned with enterprise and healthcare security standards.
- Define and maintain standardized landing zone patterns for multiple workload types (IaaS, PaaS, hybrid, vendor‑hosted).
- Design and enforce subscription management strategies (e.g., per environment, per workload, per domain).
- Implement management groups, Azure Policy, RBAC, tags, and budgets to enforce enterprise governance.
- Ensure standardized naming, tagging, and cost‑allocation models across all Azure resources.
- Provide guardrails while enabling self‑service for application and migration teams.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) using ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or similar tools.
- Design and support Azure platform services.
- Collaborate with migration, application, and infrastructure teams to onboard workloads.
- Ensure platform designs comply with HIPAA, HITECH, and internal security policies.
Required Qualifications of the Landing Zone Engineer:
- 5+ years of experience in cloud platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering.
- Hands‑on experience designing and implementing Azure landing zones.
- Strong knowledge of Azure governance constructs (management groups, Azure Policy, RBAC, tagging).
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code and reusable cloud patterns.
- Experience supporting data center to Azure migration initiatives.
- Experience working in healthcare.
Compensation of the Landing Zone Engineer:
- Salary Range: $66/hr - $78/hr depending on experience
