Introduction

Pioneering Intelligence (PI) is the newest business unit within Flagship Pioneering. It focuses on inventing and building AI/ML and tech-based platform companies that transform innovation, productivity, and outcomes across therapeutic and non-therapeutic applications.

PI is at the forefront of technological innovation and company origination, translating tech into value-creating platforms.

Position Summary

The Principal, Pioneering Intelligence will lead an origination team, guiding associates to ideate, research, and refine venture hypotheses. You will develop business cases, drive company origination, and provide strategic, operational, and technical oversight to early-stage companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Venture Hypothesis Ideation: Oversee multiple explorations, guide associates, pressure-test assumptions, and develop high-value venture hypotheses.
  • New Company Origination and Operation: Oversee early-stage operations, manage product roadmap testing, and coordinate with internal teams.
  • Capability and Team Building: Coach associates on project management, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement, while mentoring and building cross-unit relationships.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD/MS/MA or MBA) from top universities.
  • 5+ years professional experience in tech/biotech or related fields.
  • 2+ years of top-tier management consulting or similar managerial roles.
  • Strong knowledge of both business and technical aspects of AI/ML.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfort with navigating uncertainty and exploring uncharted territories.
