About the Agency
The First Judicial District of Pennsylvania (FJD) is part of the Philadelphia County Court System, comprising the Court of Common Pleas and the Municipal Court. Its mission is to adjudicate cases and serve the Philadelphia community by providing fair, timely, and accessible justice.
Position Summary
As a Court Reporter - Court Administration, you will record court proceedings using a stenotype machine, ensuring accurate, verbatim transcripts for trials, hearings, and conferences. Your role is critical as the transcripts represent the official record of the court.
Essential Functions
- Record testimony verbatim using stenotype or computer-aided systems.
- Read back portions of transcripts upon request.
- Edit, proofread, and produce certified transcripts.
- Respond to inquiries from judiciary, attorneys, and the public.
- Perform administrative duties including billing and record keeping.
- Purchase and maintain all necessary equipment and software.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong command of English language with proper grammar and punctuation.
- Detailed knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
- Ability to work under high pressure and strict time limitations.
- Skilled in maintaining effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited court reporting school.
- Ability to record verbatim dictation at specified speeds and accuracy.
- Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
- Covid-19 Vaccination is recommended.

Salary Range: $63,421 - $70,297
