Job Description
Content Architect at Phase2
At Phase2, our remote-first employees join and stay to be a force in advancing the human experience through digital innovation. You will find an environment where you can do your best work, live fully, and succeed as part of a dedicated team. Phase2 is a digital agency driven by a passion for customer experience, grounded in data and insights, and built on over two decades of successful technology delivery. We guide industry-leading companies in navigating their evolving digital landscapes, and this journey begins with finding individuals who align with our values and commitment to making an impact.
About The Role
Phase2 is actively seeking a Content Architect to spearhead the design, governance, and operationalization of content architectures for modern digital platforms, including those supporting AI-enabled experiences. In this role, you will ensure client content is structured, reusable, accessible, and trustworthy, facilitating scalable delivery across websites, applications, personalization systems, and AI-driven interfaces. By strategically architecting content for both human users and machine learning systems, you will empower clients to seize opportunities across traditional search, generative engine optimization (GEO), and advanced AI-powered experiences. The Content Architect will work directly with client teams, engineers, data specialists, and delivery leads to translate complex business and user needs into durable content models, taxonomies, and sustainable governance practices.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design of content models, taxonomies, and metadata structures that support modular, reusable, and semantically meaningful content.
- Conduct thorough content audits and analysis to inform platform migrations, redesign initiatives, and efforts aimed at AI-readiness.
- Lead structured data and schema strategy (e.g., Schema.org, provider/location/service entities), optimizing content for traditional SEO and generative AI discovery (GEO), including critical AI visibility requirements such as citability, entity clarity, and authority signals.
- Own technical SEO considerations related to content architecture, encompassing metadata strategy, structured data coverage, fundamental search visibility, and semantic structure.
- Define and implement robust content governance frameworks, including detailed editorial workflows, lifecycle rules, and stringent quality standards.
- Ensure content architectures consistently support accessibility (WCAG - Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), compliance, and uniformity across diverse channels and audiences.
- Partner closely with Engineering and Data teams to ensure content structures are technically implementable within CMSs, APIs, and various downstream systems.
- Guide clients through comprehensive content transformation and migration efforts, from initial strategy through successful execution, including designing efficient content operations workflows to minimize content and metadata debt and enhance system integrity.
- Collaborate with Client Orchestrators to align project scope, timelines, and delivery expectations.
- Provide expert content architecture direction to delivery teams and actively mentor less senior content strategists.
What You'll Need
- Deep experience in content architecture, taxonomy, and governance.
- Hands-on delivery experience with CMS-driven platforms and migrations.
- Strong collaboration skills with engineering and delivery teams.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled content use cases (semantic search, personalization, automation).
- Proven ability to lead complex content workstreams within client engagements.
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing and remediating content quality issues at scale, including inconsistent tagging, taxonomy violations, metadata gaps, and redundant content structures.
- Strong proficiency working with spreadsheets, structured datasets, system exports, and data normalization tools to support content cleanup, transformation, and migration workflows.
- Strong working knowledge of technical SEO and structured data implementation, with experience utilizing SEO platforms to diagnose and improve content visibility.
- Experience defining structured data and schema strategies for SEO and AI visibility (e.g., Schema.org, JSON-LD, entity modeling).
What Success Looks Like
- Content models that significantly reduce duplication and rework.
- Clean migrations and transformations with minimal content debt.
- Platforms that effectively support personalization, AI retrieval, and multimodal delivery without the need for retrofitting.
- Clients who are fully capable of governing and evolving their content post-delivery.
- Structured data implementations that lead to improved SEO performance, enhanced GEO outcomes, and greater visibility within AI-generated answers.
What You’ll Get
- The chance to make a real impact, helping millions of people per year.
- The flexibility to work from wherever you thrive best, as we are a remote-first team built on trust, flexibility, and outcomes.
- A competitive compensation package that carefully considers various factors.

- Our fun and interactive wellness program offers rewarding incentives for participation.
- A 401(k) with a 3% employer contribution—no match required and 100% vested after just 90 days.
- You’ll start with 16 paid vacation days, 4 personal days, and 1 volunteer day each year. Vacation and personal time increase with your tenure, recognizing your continued contributions.
- Up to 12 weeks of fully paid leave for birthing parents and up to 6 weeks of fully paid bonding leave, based on your tenure. This includes support for adoption and foster placement, along with the option to extend time off through additional unpaid leave.
- Inclusive fertility, adoption, and surrogacy benefits through Kindbody, along with virtual health coaching and care navigation.
