About the Veterinary Assistant Role

Position Purpose
The Veterinary Assistant provides excellent medical care and outstanding customer service at Petco's Vetco Total Care hospitals. You will greet clients, help manage patient care, and support the technical and customer aspects of the hospital operations.
Essential Job Functions
- Greet clients and escort patients to exam rooms while noting vital parameters.
- Collect patient histories and update electronic medical records.
- Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency tasks including surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
- Perform patient restraint, lab sample processing, and medication handling.
- Support scheduling, client education, and record maintenance.
- Help prepare patients for surgical procedures and monitor recovery under supervision.
- Participate in in-hospital treatments and support post-operative care.
- Maintain a clean and safe hospital environment.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed and assist in training new staff.
