Program Overview

Peraton is seeking motivated individuals for the role of Credentialed Background Investigator Remote, servicing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Background Investigations contracts nationwide.

About the Role

This is a 100% remote position requiring candidates to conduct federal background investigations through on-the-ground fieldwork, face-to-face interviews, and comprehensive report writing. The role includes a combination of independent field assignments and support from experienced teams.

  • Intensive Training: Comprehensive training program including instructor-led and self-directed modules.
  • Field Work Variability: Daily travel and temporary assignments ranging 14-30 days may occur.
  • Investigative Skills: Conduct interviews, review documents, and write detailed reports meeting federal standards.
  • Autonomy with Support: Work independently in a secure home office while supported by a Field Manager.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintain high accuracy in data gathering and reporting under deadlines.

Investigator Job Responsibilities

  • Investigate federal employees, contractors, and applicants needing access to sensitive information.
  • Verify background details like employment, education, military, financial and criminal records.
  • Analyze data from investigative databases and public records.
  • Collect court records, police reports, and financial documents.
  • Conduct detailed interviews and write comprehensive reports.
  • Manage multiple investigations simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Stay updated on company policies and investigative techniques.

Qualifications

Required: 4 years experience or bachelor’s degree; experience in federal background investigations preferred. Must obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance, U.S. citizenship is required, and a home office setup must meet mileage requirements. Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, proficient typing (40+ WPM), and excellent grammar are needed.

Desired: Ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals, effective under remote supervision, with strong organizational and communication skills.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
