Role Overview
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Trauma SICU role is part of the Surgical Critical Care Service Team serving three downtown hospitals: Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania Hospital. The advanced practice team is engaged in advanced critical care management with 40 APPs supporting 25 surgical and anesthesia intensivists.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient management and clinical decision making
- Performing bedside procedures such as central lines and bronchoscopy
- Teaching patients, families, and staff
- Participating in Quality Improvement and Clinical Leadership initiatives
- Attending ongoing educational lectures in critical care management
About the Trauma SICU
This nationally recognized Trauma Program is housed in a state-of-the-art facility that received an ICU design citation award. It serves a diverse patient population, including multisystem trauma, complex surgeries, organ transplants, and advanced robotic interventions.
Schedule & Environment
Clinical work hours include days, nights, weekends, and holidays with 3 to 4 shifts per week. The role is based out of Penn Presbyterian but also supports other downtown Penn Medicine hospitals.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's prepared Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Valid Pennsylvania licensure and certification as an ACNP or PA
- Surgical Critical Care experience
- ACLS required; ATLS preferred
