Subsidiary Rights Assistant, Penguin Publishing Group

The Subsidiary Rights Department at Penguin Publishing Group is looking for an assistant to support the VP Director and a Senior Director. This role involves the licensing and promotion of books to various outlets, including UK and translation publishers, book clubs, and audio publishers. You will work with adult titles across the Penguin Publishing Group, making this an excellent opportunity to enter the field of rights licensing and publishing. As a hybrid role, this position requires a solutions-focused individual interested in building book publishing relationships both internally and externally. Our aim is to broaden the reach of Penguin titles to the widest possible readership through global licensing. We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate who is passionate about the business side of publishing, adept at multitasking, and exceptionally organized. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, a meticulous self-starter who loves books, and is invested in bringing them to a wide readership. Strong writing and analytical skills, clear communication, comfort in asking for help, and a desire to be an active team member are essential. If you can manage urgent tasks while staying on top of your responsibilities, you will grow into greater duties over time. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Assisting senior-level staff and providing general administrative support.
  • Creating deal sheets and monthly deal summaries.
  • Writing submission letters and corresponding with co-agents and licensees.
  • Managing and executing book mailings.
  • Coordinating art, editorial, and publicity requests from domestic and foreign publishers.
  • Providing production materials and navigating art clearances to licensees.
  • Compiling information and generating blurbs for seasonal rights guides and international book fairs.
  • Maintaining a database of contacts and titles.

Compensation and Benefits: The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
