Java Integrations Security Engineer

PeerSource is currently recruiting for multiple Java Security Integration Engineers on a Contract basis. These roles can be hybrid or mostly remote for those in the Colorado front range (at least 1 day/week onsite in Loveland, CO). Full benefits are offered during the contract period with potential to turn into a full-time position. No C2C / third parties.

Summary

We are seeking Senior Java Security Integration Engineers to support a critical security and infrastructure initiative. This role focuses on designing and enhancing secure Java-based applications, modern identity and access management solutions, and enterprise security integrations while helping modernize legacy systems. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java security, authentication protocols, secure application architecture, and enterprise integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance secure Java-based backend services and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Security.
• Implement and support Identity & Access Management (IAM/CIAM) solutions, including Single Sign-On (SSO), multi-factor authentication, and identity federation using SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, and enterprise Identity Providers such as Okta, Auth0, Microsoft Entra ID, or Keycloak.
• Refactor legacy applications and troubleshoot application behavior operating behind Web Application Firewalls (WAF), partnering with infrastructure teams to resolve security and connectivity issues.
• Perform secure code reviews, threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, and implement security best practices aligned with OWASP standards.
• Design and implement structured application logging and integrations with enterprise SIEM platforms to improve security monitoring and incident response.
• Support GDPR and data sovereignty initiatives by assisting with application architecture, database schema separation, and migration strategies for regional deployments.
• Develop secure integrations with modern AI platforms and APIs, including LLM-based solutions and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, while ensuring appropriate security controls and data protection.
• Produce technical documentation and collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, and compliance teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience developing enterprise Java applications with Spring Boot and Spring Security.
• Strong expertise building secure backend microservices and implementing modern authentication and authorization using SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, and Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) solutions.
• Experience building integrations with enterprise Identity Providers such as Okta, Auth0, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), or Keycloak.
• Ability to troubleshoot applications behind Web Application Firewalls (WAF), implementing secure coding practices, cryptography, TLS/SSL, API security, SIEM logging, and application security best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced contract environment while producing high-quality technical documentation and collaborating across technical teams.
• Experience with GDPR, data sovereignty initiatives, database migration strategies, and regional application architecture.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or OCI), AI/LLM integrations, and medical imaging technologies including PACS and DICOM protocols is preferred but not required.
• Relevant security certifications are a plus.
