Senior Software Engineer

Pearson is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Higher Education Digital (HED) products and platforms team. This is a remote role within the United States.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key individual contributor responsible for the design, development, and delivery of high-quality, scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions. You will act as a technical leader and subject matter expert, influencing engineering direction, driving modernization, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across various teams including product, architecture, quality engineering, security, and operations. A strong emphasis will be placed on operational excellence, cloud-native development, automation, and AI-assisted engineering practices to enhance product quality, reliability, and delivery speed.

  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Strong experience collaborating with globally distributed engineering teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Required: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), software design principles, and architectural patterns. Expert-level proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python). Strong experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures. Experience building and operating applications on cloud platforms (preferably AWS). Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code. Experience with source control systems (e.g., Git) and modern development workflows. Experience with automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices. Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Compensation

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by various factors, including skill set, experience level, and location. The minimum full-time salary range for this position is between $110,000 - $140,000 annually. This position is eligible for an annual incentive program. Information on benefits is available.
