About the role

Cloud Service Engineer

The Digital Workplace Productivity, Collaboration Voice & Video Engineer designs, delivers, and continuously improves digital workplace solutions that enable employees to work more efficiently, collaboratively, and securely. This role blends engineering, automation, platform governance, and user experience, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365, Google Workplace, Adobe, Smartsheet and other integrated collaboration tools, platforms.

This role serves as a link between IT, security, and the business, making sure productivity platforms remain dependable, scalable, and in line with organisational goals. While this position is technical and hands-on, it also demands strong engagement with stakeholders and key suppliers to help us reshape Pearson’s Digital Workplace platform services and solutions.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design, implement, and support productivity and collaboration platforms (e.g. Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Google Workplace, Adobe Products, Smartsheet).
  • Engineer scalable, secure solutions meeting enterprise standards.
  • Manage configuration, lifecycle, and service optimization.
  • Customer-focused service owner or management experience.
  • Automate processes with tools like PowerShell, Graph API, Logic Apps, or Power Automate.
  • Reduce manual operations with scripting and self-service features.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code for repeatable deployment and configuration.
  • Apply security controls including identity, access, data protection, and governance.
  • Set and maintain policies for retention, sensitivity, conditional access, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to meet regulations and manage risk.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand and address requirements.
  • Convert business needs into technical solutions and enhancements.
  • Support change management, adoption, and feature launches.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on modern work practices.
  • Assess new features and run proofs of concept as needed.
  • Promote standardization and best practices across the digital workplace.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven knowledge and experience with Microsoft 365 inclusive of other Productivity and collaboration products (Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Google Workplace, Adobe, Smartsheet, Voice, Video and meeting room technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of email technologies implementation approaches and standards (DMARC, DKIM, SPF).
  • Understanding of Entra ID (Azure AD), identity, and access management.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Microsoft Defender Security Product Suite including Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Endpoint, Cloud Apps, Identity and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Scripting and automation experience with modern PowerShell and/or Python.
  • Familiarity with APIs and automation frameworks such as Microsoft Graph.
  • Experience with security and compliance features (DLP, retention, eDiscovery, sensitivity labels).
  • Knowledge of endpoint and device integration (Intune desirable).
  • Experience in large or complex enterprise environments.
  • Mergers, acquisitions and divestment experience and experience of 3rd party products such as Sharegate, Microsoft Migration Manager and BitTitan.
  • Understanding of change management and user adoption principles.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing GenAI capabilities including Copilot/Power platform.
