What Does the Internship Program Offer?

Pearson’s Evaluation Systems group is actively seeking an Associate, AI Scientist Intern to contribute to its human and automated scoring initiatives during an 8-week summer internship. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in large-scale operational scoring while contributing to impactful projects within educational assessments. Interns will engage with human scoring platforms, AI scoring platforms, or focus on building and validating AI models.

Job Description & Responsibilities

As an Associate, AI Scientist Intern, you will join the dynamic Scoring and Insights team for the summer. This internship provides invaluable exposure to research, artificial intelligence, software development, and data analysis. You will be instrumental in contributing to critical projects centered on enhancing educational assessment methodologies.

During the 8-week program, your work will involve supporting one of the following key areas:

  • Production software development for our hand-scoring platform (OSCAR).
  • Production software development for our automated scoring platforms.
  • Design and analysis of essential hand-scoring activities, such as AI generation of range-finding samples.
  • Design, modeling, and analysis of AI initiatives focused on automated scoring, including gaming detection or training mechanisms.

Internship Duration & Format

This position is an 8-week program and is fully remote within the US. Occasional travel to company offices or partner locations may be required, but the role is primarily designated as a Remote Employee.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Educational Measurement, Psychometrics, Statistics, Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning/AI, or Computer Science.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate within a team.
