Job Description
About the Environmental Change Agent Role
The Peace Corps is seeking dedicated individuals for the Environmental Change Agent volunteer position in Senegal. This role focuses on promoting sustainable environmental management and agricultural practices within local communities, integrating trees and woody plants into existing land use systems.
Communities in Senegal face significant challenges from natural and human-induced environmental degradation. Traditional agricultural practices contribute to deforestation and reduced soil fertility, while increasing temperatures and coastal erosion diminish arable land productivity. These issues exacerbate food insecurity and health vulnerabilities for a population where over a third lives below the poverty line. Community-level interventions are crucial to build awareness and skills for sustainable preservation.

- Identify strategies to increase access to nutritious foods and generate additional income sources.
