Technical Manager

Job Summary

As a Technical Manager at Palmer Holland, you will play a crucial role in assisting the sales team and providing essential technical support to customers utilizing our raw material offerings. This position involves direct interaction with customers and supplier partners to understand their needs, resolve technical problems, and propose solution-based recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate with customers and supplier partners via in-person meetings, phone, and email to understand technical requirements and issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to raw material applications.
• Provide recommendations for product improvement and optimal usage.
• Prepare and deliver comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and demonstrations to customers and internal management.
• Offer training and guidance to customers and the sales team, specifically focusing on CASE markets with an emphasis on Dow Coating Materials binder polymers and additives for coatings and paints.
• Maintain detailed records of customer interactions, transactions, and feedback.
• Stay current with industry trends, developments, and regulations within the chemical sector.
• Collaborate effectively with sales, marketing, and research teams to provide valuable feedback and insights for product development and enhancement.

Requirements

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field is required.

Experience

• Relevant work experience is essential.
• Demonstrated knowledge in paint and coating formulation is highly preferred.
• Experience with polymer synthesis is also preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Contact Management Software.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to maintain professional conduct consistent with corporate policies, especially when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
• Capability to handle sensitive information with utmost confidentiality and discretion.
• Detail-oriented with strong, accurate clerical skills.
• Proficient at multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities effectively.
• Highly motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Competencies

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Willingness and capability to travel to customer and principal sites or other locations as needed.
• Capable of traveling by plane or car; approximately 50% travel is required for this role.

Physical Requirements

• Possess satisfactory motor skills relevant to the position.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds.
