About the role
Principal Competitive Intelligence
There are NO limits to your career: come shape the future and be part of a truly unique global culture at OutSystems!
About This Role
As the first dedicated Competitive Intelligence hire in the era of AI, you will be the "founding member" of the Competitive Intelligence practice at OutSystems. Sitting within the Product Marketing team, you will act as the central nervous system for market and competitor insights.
Your mission is to translate complex technical shifts and competitor moves into actionable strategies that help our Sales team win, our Product team differentiate, and our Executive team lead. You will build the frameworks, select the tools, and establish the cadence for how we monitor and beat the competition.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Analysis & Market Monitoring
- Establish the "Intel Engine": Build and run a repeatable cadence for monitoring competitor product launches, pricing changes, marketing shifts, and financial earnings.
- Technical Deep Dives: Conduct hands-on technical assessments of competing solutions (e.g., evaluating AI capabilities, developer experience, or workflow extensibility).
- Market Trends: Track emerging shifts in [Industry - e.g., Agentic AI, Low-Code, or IDE innovation] to provide "early warning" alerts on disruptive threats or opportunities.
Sales Enablement & Deal Support
- The "Win" Toolkit: Create and maintain high-impact assets including Battlecards, objection-handling guides, and "Why We Win" playbooks.
- Live Deal Support: Serve as a strategic advisor on high-stakes, "must-win" deals, providing custom competitive analysis and positioning to help Sales unblock revenue.
- Win/Loss Program: Partner with Revenue Operations to lead a formal Win/Loss analysis program, identifying patterns in why we win or lose against specific rivals.
Cross-Functional Influence
- Messaging & Positioning: Work with the broader Product Marketing team to ensure our corporate narrative and website messaging proactively distance us from the competition.
- Executive Briefings: Deliver regular updates (monthly/quarterly) to leadership on the competitive landscape, shifting "Magic Quadrant" dynamics, and strategic recommendations.
- Product Roadmap Input: Translate competitive gaps and technical weaknesses into prioritized recommendations for the Product Management team.
Qualifications / What You Need To Succeed
- Experience: 10+ years in Product Marketing, Competitive Strategy, or Corporate Development at a high-growth technical company (ServiceNow, Salesforce, or similar).
- The "Architect" Mindset: Proven ability to build a function from 0 to 1, including selecting tech stacks (Klue, Crayon, Salesforce integration) and defining company-wide processes.
- Technical Depth: You must be able to hold your own with Architects, Engineering, and CTO-level buyers. Experience in Agentic AI, Developer Tools, or Low-Code is a major advantage.
- Strategic Communication: Ability to take "dense technical telemetry" and boil it down into a 30-second executive summary or a high-impact "trap-setting" sales script.
- Leadership: While this is currently a team of one, you must have the presence and leadership skills to mentor cross-functional teams and eventually hire and scale the function.
