The Role: Backend Engineer, Commerce Mission

This is a remote US role, with offices available in San Francisco and San Diego for those who prefer hybrid or on-site work. Oura employees in other major cities like Boston and New York also have opportunities for informal gatherings at local co-working locations.

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to join our expanding Software engineering organization in the USA. Our organization is structured into cross-functional squads, each owning a specific area of the Oura product. You will be a crucial part of the Commerce Mission, which is responsible for driving Oura’s product sales revenue through online e-commerce and offline partnerships.

What You’ll Do

• Contribute to a revenue-generating organization focused on increasing Oura’s brand recognition and driving product sales. This includes D2C, B2B, and strategic retail partnerships.
• Collaborate with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions using Typescript, DynamoDB, Redis, and AWS technologies.
• Design and implement testable, scalable, and well-documented code, ensuring adherence to the latest security and compliance regulations.
• Provide support to the customer care team by troubleshooting and resolving issues impacting user experience.

What We’re Looking For

• 3 - 5 years of backend development experience.
• Strong Typescript skills.
• Solid knowledge of API best practices, experience with serverless patterns (AWS Lambdas) and Service-Oriented Architectures.
• Proven experience designing, building, and deploying scalable, performant web services on AWS.
• Experience with DevOps, including CI/CD pipeline configuration, monitoring, observability for production code, and crafting quality alerts for operational excellence.
• A pragmatic, entrepreneurial attitude and delivery-focused mindset, capable of balancing short-term goals with managing long-term tech debt.

Nice To Haves (at Least One)

• Experience with online payments, Payment Service Providers (PSPs), digital wallets, etc.
• Experience building, migrating, or maintaining performant services at scale with multiple internal and external consumers.
• Experience building commercial solutions for B2B or D2C commerce flows.

Oura employs a market-based pay approach, with salaries varying by US location based on a cost of labor index. Successful candidates' pay will be determined by job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal equity, and market conditions.

Salary ranges:

• Region 1: $142,000 - $178,000
• Region 2: $130,000 - $163,000
• Region 3: $120,000 - $150,000
