Term Educational Assistant

About the Role

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking a Term Educational Assistant. In this role, you will support classrooms with students who have specific needs including developmental delays, physical handicaps, sensory impairments and behavioral or learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities

• Support academic development of students in regular and special education classrooms.
• Assist with physical, emotional, and hygienic needs.
• Work as part of the school team to enhance the overall educational program.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include a secondary school diploma and a two-year community college diploma in a related field (e.g., DSW, CYW, SSW or a relevant University Degree) with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience working with children with disabilities and behavioral or learning difficulties.

Preferred Assets

• Knowledge of PICS, PECS, ABA, signing, or Braille.
• Certificates in Behavior Science, CPR/First Aid, CPI (NCI) and Diabetic Monitoring.
• Ability to show initiative with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong rapport-building skills with children.

Additional Information

This is a term assignment with an hourly wage between $26.24 and $32.41 plus a 4% vacation pay equivalent.
