Job Description

Educational Assistant

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is seeking a creative, dynamic, and committed Educational Assistant to join their team. This is a 100% Consistent Casual position.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team, providing support to students with exceptional needs. This role requires flexibility and involves dealing with confidential information. Responsibilities include supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, participating in pool programs, providing academic support, implementing special programs, and assisting deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, as well as physiotherapy exercises and stretches.

Educational Assistants may also modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities and speech/language issues. Assignments can include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and pool duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with exceptional needs.
  • Assist students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities.
  • Provide academic and special program support.
  • Assist students with visual or hearing impairments.
  • Implement physiotherapy exercises and stretches.
  • Modify programs for students with learning disabilities and speech/language issues.
  • Perform yard duties, lifting, and toileting assistance.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent. A minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children is required. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is an asset. Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) is also preferred.
