Job Summary: Director of Data and AI
The Director of Data & AI at Origami Risk is a hands-on, strategic leader tasked with advancing the company's data and AI capabilities. This role is pivotal in driving innovation, scalability, and significant business value. You will define and deliver a unified vision for data architecture, AI enablement, and analytics strategy, ensuring that Origami Risk's platform remains competitive, insightful, and compliant in a dynamic digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Define and own the vision and roadmap for a unified data and AI strategy, supporting business growth, customer insights, operational efficiency, and product innovation. Conduct comprehensive audits of the current data landscape and lead the development of a cloud-native data lake house on AWS, utilizing Databricks for storage, transformation, and ML workloads. Champion emerging technologies to maintain industry leadership.
- Data Governance & Architecture: Enhance data observability, lineage, quality, and governance to build trust, promote reuse, and ensure regulatory readiness. Collaborate cross-functionally to establish data policies, metadata standards, and stewardship aligned with compliance requirements.
- AI Strategy & Enablement: Drive AI democratization by embedding capabilities like summarization, predictive insights, and workflow automation across the platform. Establish an internal AI enablement platform with APIs, tooling, and guardrails for standardized access to public LLMs and foundational models. Oversee prompt engineering, evaluation, testing, versioning, and optimization frameworks.
- Analytics & Adoption: Expand self-service analytics using ThoughtSpot, empowering teams and clients to derive insights from governed datasets. Partner with Product, Engineering, and Product Marketing to achieve and track adoption of AI features, targeting 50% usage across the customer base. Identify value-driving metrics and communicate data and AI impact across the organization.
- Innovation & Commercialization: Identify commercial opportunities through data-driven and AI-enhanced product features across datasets and customer segments. Lead the acceleration of white-labeled AI capabilities, including assessing external partnerships and vendors.
- Communication & Leadership: Articulate the value of data and AI to executive leadership, internal stakeholders, and clients. Manage and mentor a team of data, ML/AI, and Prompt engineers, overseeing review and compensation processes. Collaborate closely with architects and product teams to embed data and AI capabilities into the platform’s core.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Fulfill additional responsibilities as needed to support the team and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a data and/or AI leadership role (e.g., Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Analytics, Machine Learning).
- Strong preference for experience in a SaaS B2B environment.
- Proven track record of commercializing data and AI into scalable, productized features.
- Hands-on expertise with AWS for data and compute infrastructure, Databricks for lake house architecture and ML workflows, ThoughtSpot or similar analytics platforms, SQL, Python, and relevant AI/LLM tooling.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, and vendor relationships.
- Deep understanding of data and AI compliance requirements, including governance, privacy, and contractual obligations.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Work Arrangement
This is a full-time position. All full-time positions at Origami Risk are hybrid, with many eligible to be completely remote. Salary for this role ranges from $175,000 to $222,000, dependent on skills, experience, location, and market demands, and includes eligibility for a bonus.
