Department Overview
This position provides technical support to clinic personnel and off-site pharmacists responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of medications in outpatient infusion clinics that are not staffed with a licensed pharmacist. Patients range from neonates to the elderly. The technician will manage day-to-day operations of the outpatient infusion preparation area.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, mix and compound sterile and hazardous medications using aseptic procedures.
- Prioritize orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Perform unit dose functions including narcotic processing and ADC refilling.
- Deliver medications and return unused stock.
- Maintain work area including equipment, storage, and temperature/pressure records.
- Manage inventory of controlled and non-controlled substances and supplies.
- Assist pharmacists with telephone support, filing invoices, and maintaining patient files.
- Follow cleaning policies and regulatory compliance for hazardous medications.
Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma, active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License, 2 years pharmacy experience (or equivalent education), and certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association.
Skills & Competencies
- Understanding of medical terminology and pharmaceutical mathematics.
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and handling small objects.
- Inventory management and regulatory compliance.
- Good interpersonal communication and workflow prioritization.
Preferred Qualifications
Formal pharmacy technician training, inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience, and familiarity with medical and scientific nomenclature.
