We are looking for a Buyer I to work in our procurement team. This position plays a vital role on the team and is responsible for purchasing raw materials and packaging inventory, serving as the Procurement point of contact for OFD’s Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) program supporting manufacturing and maintenance operations. This role also assists other OFD departments with their supply needs and ensures accurate, timely replenishment by placing purchase orders generated through the MRP planning system.
The ideal candidate is strategic, detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Hybrid in Albany Oregon preferred, open to Remote applicants.
Your Role as Buyer I
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with suppliers and cross‑functional departments to support efficient procurement operations.
- Use the ERP system to review demand, generate purchase requisitions, and create accurate purchase orders.
- Communicate directly with suppliers to issue purchase orders, confirm delivery schedules, and ensure on-time receipt of materials.
- Support price and terms negotiations for goods and services to secure competitive and cost‑effective purchasing outcomes.
- Track orders and deliveries, monitor supplier performance and quality, maintain supplier records, and proactively troubleshoot issues that may impact production schedules.
- Utilize OFD business systems to determine replenishment needs and place orders for inventory, raw materials, and manufacturing supplies.
- Support other OFD departments by managing service agreements and coordinating vendor‑managed inventory (VMI) programs for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) supplies.
- In the absence of incumbent, the direct supervisor will act as designee.

What We're Looking For
- Generally, a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a purchasing or buyer-related role, along with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or a related field.
- Knowledge of inventory management principles, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement practices; able to interpret information and apply available tools to support business goals.
- Proficient with computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn inventory and replenishment systems.
- Highly organized and proactive; maintains accurate records, prioritizes work effectively, follows up on action items, and sustains high productivity without supervision.
- Demonstrates professional and effective communication skills with internal and external partners; clearly conveys information and keeps stakeholders informed.
- Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment in decision-making aligned with company and department objectives.
