Job Description

About the Role: Software Development Sr. Director, OCI at Oracle

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) delivers mission-critical applications for top-tier enterprises globally, offering hyper-scale, multi-tenant services across over 50 regions. OCI is expanding into dedicated, hybrid, multi-cloud, and edge computing. The Technical Strategy and Oversight (TSO) organization aims to support customer choice, transparency, and value in cloud infrastructure.

This team is driving ambitious new initiatives, including building high-performance primitives and frameworks for OCI developers, and developing a new container runtime to support the full spectrum of OCI services, including the most demanding tier-one services. Other innovations include canonical implementations for data plane core components, a remote persistent storage solution with NVMe-comparable latency, and tools for identifying critical performance improvements across OCI data-planes. The goal is to enhance engineering efficiency by concentrating expertise on high-performance, low-level systems for broad adoption across OCI's core cloud services.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a leader with a proven track record in managing high-scale cloud infrastructure services, adept at balancing business impact with deep technical excellence. You should have experience growing and guiding globally distributed teams while overseeing the design, delivery, and operation of mission-critical systems. Candidates must be technically strong, experienced in building highly available, scalable, and resilient services, and possess the judgment to balance new features with incremental improvements.

This role demands a blend of technical depth and organizational leadership. You will mentor and scale managers and principal engineers, while also engaging directly in architecture, design, and execution when necessary. If you are driven by the opportunity to shape a 0→1 greenfield initiative and define the future of cloud infrastructure, this position offers significant scope and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the technical, product, and organizational strategy for charters within Light-weight Infrastructure (Core Compute, Connectivity & State, Observability & Governance).
  • Lead globally distributed teams to design and deliver innovative 0→1 services.
  • Recruit and develop top engineering talent (both managers and individual contributors) to build high-performing teams.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, integrity, and high professional standards.
  • Ensure effective communication across all organizational levels, from engineers to executives.
  • Provide mentorship to teams through architecture and security reviews.
  • Implement practices that foster continuous improvement in engineering execution, leadership, and technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years in a senior management role, with experience managing managers and staff engineers.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in distributed systems or cloud services.
  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in Compute virtualization, Cloud scale storage systems, or Cloud Networking.
  • Strong business acumen and communication skills.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of core cloud infrastructure components: compute, virtual networking, and storage.
  • Strong proficiency in distributed systems architecture and design.
