Building off our Cloud momentum, Oracle has formed a new organization - Oracle Health Applications & Infrastructure. This team focuses on product development and product strategy for Oracle Health, while building out a complete platform supporting modernized, automated healthcare. This is a new line of business, constructed with an entrepreneurial spirit that promotes an energetic and creative environment. We are seeking a strong leader to drive transformation of database services to offer 5 9s of availability, scaling with no customer impact, and delighting customers with optimal performance. This leader is also responsible to transform database organization into SREs with strong post mortem culture, automation first approach, DevOps mindset, and raising operations bar with extreme ownership and accountability.

As a Software Development Director, you will own the vision, roadmap, and execution of multiple critical initiatives in database operations. Leverage your functional expertise and organizational skills in building a thriving culture with an engineering mindset and attracting talent. Work with other technical teams within database services and platform architecture in building solutions to deliver continuous improvements in reliability, scalability, performance, and managing the fleet efficiently. Drive accountability with extreme ownership on all database issues and incidents by working with teams across Oracle Health. As a leader, you will influence the strategy and roadmap of the teams responsible for the technical stack which have an impact on the database.

An ideal candidate for this role has experience in high scale database systems (100+ PBs in size, 1000+ instances in fleet size, 1M+ executions per second), experience with SRE transformation, and software development background with demonstrated artifacts. You have passion for databases, an accomplished leader with bias for action in delivering results in matrixed organizations, and transformed teams with top talent and grooming leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Define and execute the vision and roadmap for database service transformation, focusing on SRE and DevOps principles.
  • Ensure the highest levels of database availability (5 9s), scalability, and performance for critical healthcare applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvements in reliability, efficiency, and operational practices.
  • Drive incident command and post-mortem culture, ensuring swift resolution and preventive measures for all database issues.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in leading multiple teams, preferably of size 50+.
  • 7+ years of experience in managing portfolios of high scale systems preferably in databases.
  • Experience in driving SRE and DevOps transformations.
  • Well recognized as a domain and functional expert in databases.
  • Have delivered results in improving database infrastructure reliability to 99.995+.
  • Prior experience in Oracle RAC and leading databases in public cloud.
  • Experience in partnering, influencing, and collaborating with cross functional teams.
  • Consistent track record of delivering roadmap results in highly regulated environments.
  • Excellent skills in verbal communication and writing strategy documents.
  • U.S. Citizenship required, ability to obtain/maintain federal clearance required.
  • Experience leading 24x7 production operations and incident command for Sev-1/Sev-2 events.
  • Deep experience with Oracle HA/DR (e.g., Data Guard/Active Data Guard), backup/restore (RMAN), patching/upgrades, and performance tuning at scale.
  • Experience building and operating observability (metrics/logs/traces), alerting, and on-call practices.
  • Experience supporting large-scale site launches / go-lives and operational readiness reviews.
