About the role
About the Role
As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of OCI's infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in turning abstract goals into robust architecture, ensuring production success, and influencing technical strategies across teams. This hands-on leadership position involves mentoring senior engineers and setting high standards for reliability, security, observability, and responsible AI delivery.Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, and operation of high-scale distributed systems, APIs, services, data pipelines, platform components, and security product capabilities.
- Own multi-quarter, multi-team initiatives end to end, from ambiguous product, customer, and security requirements through design, execution, launch, observability, and production support.
- Architect for reliability, scalability, low latency, multi-tenancy, fault isolation, backpressure, graceful degradation, data consistency, and operational visibility.
- Design and operate security-sensitive product capabilities at scale, including identity boundaries, authorization and policy controls, auditability, threat signals, secrets handling, compliance controls, and secure integration points.
- Establish agentic-first engineering workflows for planning, prototyping, debugging, refactoring, test generation, documentation, code review, and delivery while maintaining clear human accountability.
- Build or integrate production AI/agent workflows, including tool use, RAG, agent harnesses, evaluation suites, workflow orchestration, AI observability, guardrails, and LLM-backed experiences.
- Define engineering quality and operational standards across automated testing, CI/CD, deployment automation, release readiness, incident response, post-incident follow-up, and documentation.
- Apply secure-by-default and responsible-AI practices across identity, access control, secrets handling, dependency hygiene, data protection, threat modeling, secure code review, and AI safety controls.
- Partner with product, architecture, security, operations, data, and platform teams to translate broad goals into technical roadmaps, tradeoff decisions, and executable plans.
- Mentor senior engineers, lead design reviews, serve as a technical escalation point, and define standards for maintainable, supportable, production-grade software across teams.
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent Senior Staff / Principal-level impact, including ownership of business-critical production systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-team architecture, make high-judgment technical tradeoffs, and influence engineering direction without relying on direct reporting authority.
- Strong programming ability in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Go, C++, Rust, or TypeScript, with the ability to dive deeply into unfamiliar codebases.
- Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems, cloud services, SaaS platforms, data systems, or infrastructure services at scale.
- Hands-on experience building or operating large-scale security products or security-sensitive cloud platform capabilities, such as identity and access management, authorization or policy engines, secrets or key management, audit/compliance, threat detection, vulnerability management, data protection, or cloud security posture.
- Deep knowledge of system design, APIs, data modeling, concurrency, asynchronous processing, failure modes, consistency tradeoffs, performance analysis, and production troubleshooting.
- Experience with cloud platforms, containers or Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, automated testing, deployment automation, SLOs/SLIs, on-call practices, and operational readiness.
- Hands-on use of AI-assisted and agentic development tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, or similar systems.
- Practical experience with LLM and agent patterns such as prompt engineering, structured outputs, RAG, tool/function calling, agent frameworks, harnesses, evaluations, guardrails, or workflow automation.
- Strong security judgment, communication skills, and technical leadership across secure coding, dependency management, data privacy, incident-aware engineering, and cross-team execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building high-scale, low-latency, high-availability, multi-tenant distributed systems and defining architecture across team or organizational boundaries.
- Experience delivering enterprise security products at cloud scale, including security analytics, zero-trust, identity, compliance, data protection, vulnerability management, or developer security platforms.
- Experience with agentic AI platforms, LLM evaluation, AI observability, AgentOps/LLMOps, guardrails, tool orchestration, Model Context Protocol, or developer productivity tooling.
- Experience in regulated, enterprise, healthcare, cloud infrastructure, data platform, or security-sensitive environments, with a track record of mentoring senior engineers and raising engineering standards.
