About the Role: Senior Data Center Operator at Oracle

As a Senior Data Center Operator at Oracle, you will be pivotal in maintaining the integrity and performance of critical data center spaces. This role involves meticulous oversight of capacity management, power and cooling systems, and swift response to critical incidents. You will collaborate with both internal teams and external vendors to ensure 100% uptime and availability, contributing directly to Oracle's global infrastructure.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Oversight of critical spaces, including capacity management and monitoring power/cooling.
  • Responding to critical events and incidents affecting data center operations.
  • Collaborating with external groups, colocation suppliers, and vendors to resolve issues and ensure uptime.
  • Managing small projects independently and assisting with larger local projects.
  • Controlling security and access for the data center site.
  • Handling procurement and inventory, including receiving, tracking, and shipping equipment.
  • Working collaboratively with partner and cross-functional teams.
  • Providing technical guidance to vendors and fostering strong relationships.
  • Overseeing hardware installation (provisioning) and decommissioning workflows.
  • Performing rack and stack of data center equipment (servers, networking devices, monitoring systems).
  • Managing daily tasks using internal tooling systems like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Documenting activities and strictly adhering to SOPs for compliance and standardization.
  • Participating in corporate training to enhance skills and learn new technologies.
  • Working independently, evaluating incoming tasks, and escalating issues appropriately.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience in an IT environment.
  • Solid knowledge of server, storage, and network hardware systems and components.
  • Understanding of critical data center infrastructure, including power and cooling.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and a strong team player.
  • Keen interest in learning new data center concepts and technology.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and possessing strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience assisting on-call technicians and responding to critical events.
  • Familiarity with IT Hardware Concepts (e.g., RAID, Linux/Unix, CLI).
  • Knowledge of network connectivity concepts (Layer 1 within the data center).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-year or 4-year degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 4+ years of enterprise data center experience.
  • Knowledge or experience with Linux administration or other command-line interfaces.
  • 2+ years of experience with Structured Cabling (Copper/Fiber) and cable testing.
  • 2+ years of experience with Cooling and Electrical systems concepts in a data center.
  • Experience in repairing and working on enterprise server hardware.

Career Level and Compensation

This role is designated as Career Level - IC3. The hiring range in the US is from $32.84 - $67.88 per hour, or $68,300 - $141,200 per year, with potential eligibility for equity. Oracle provides comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and parental leave.
