Principal Applied Scientist

Overview

Join Oracle's Security Engineering organization as a Principal Applied Scientist and help define the future of security operations for Oracle’s SaaS ecosystem. This high-impact role focuses on developing advanced ML and behavioral models to drive detection, response, and threat defense across one of the largest enterprise cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Invent new ways to detect and disrupt attackers.
• Build ML foundations for an AI-driven SOC.
• Architect detection pipelines and operationalize research at petabyte scale.
• Collaborate with Detection Engineering, Red Team, Threat Intelligence, and Data Engineering.
• Establish strong modeling baselines and scientific methodologies.

Technical Expertise & Skills

• Deep knowledge of ML approaches for anomaly detection, graph analysis and more.
• Expert programming skills in Python, SQL and experience with Spark, Beam or Flink.
• Hands-on with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX to prototype models.
• Experience with massive, noisy, high-cardinality datasets.

Experience & Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD or Master’s in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics (or equivalent) and 10+ years of experience. Familiarity with security telemetry and adversarial ML is highly preferred. Technical expertise is complemented by strong collaboration with internal teams and a commitment to innovation and rigorous research.
