Job Description
About the Role: Power Systems Architect at Oracle
The Chief Technical Architect Office at Oracle is seeking a Power Systems Architect (Owner’s Engineer Lead) to advance the company's next-generation data center strategy. This pivotal role involves unifying digital design, physical build, and operations into a cohesive architecture, focusing on setting standards, automation, and reference designs to accelerate scale. Operating at a principal architect/VP-equivalent individual contributor level, you will be the final technical authority for electrical power delivery from the grid through onsite generation to data centers across Oracle's global infrastructure portfolio. You will define technical and compliance direction, oversee execution, and ensure design philosophy delivers unmatched performance, resiliency, and cost efficiency.
Responsibilities
Power Systems Strategy & Architecture
- Define, document, and continually refine system-level architectures for grid interconnection, substations (AIS/GIS), generation, BESS, and power delivery to mission-critical facilities.
- Set and approve operating philosophies, including grid dependency, onsite generation, export capability, and black-start/islanding readiness.
- Own architectural decisions across all high, medium, and low voltage systems, including single-line diagrams and revision control.
Utility Engagement & Grid Interconnection
- Serve as the principal technical interface with utilities, RTOs/ISOs, and regulatory bodies for interconnection and compliance.
- Ensure deliverables meet all regional grid codes, interconnection agreements, and utility practices.
- Lead and approve major system engineering studies (load flow, short-circuit, harmonics, protection, dynamic performance).
System Quality, Testing, & Compliance
- Define and enforce power quality, resiliency, reliability, and redundancy standards (N/2N/N+1).
- Own factory and site acceptance testing at the integrated, system level. Final signoff on readiness for energization and operation.
- Chair architectural design reviews; resolve system-level tradeoffs between generation, substations, storage, and controls.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Delivery
- Provide expert guidance from conceptual design through commissioning, ensuring technical excellence and code compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure system deliverability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost efficiency.
- Lead efforts in root-cause analysis, technical troubleshooting, and corrective action planning post-commissioning.
Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, transmission and distribution, or utility-scale generation.
- Proven track record of successful design and delivery of projects at ≥230 kV.
- Expertise with HV/MV substations (AIS/GIS: 13.8kV–345kV+), system-level protection, and utility interconnect.
- Extensive experience with power system simulation and analysis tools (e.g., PSCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, DigSILENT, ASPEN).
- Deep understanding of utility codes, standards, and best practices in interconnection and compliance.
- Experience integrating generation, substation, BESS, and microgrid for mission-critical power delivery in data centers, campuses, or industrial settings.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
- Exceptional ability to influence cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
