Job Description

The Physician Informatics Executive supports the VA’s Federal EHR deployment and advances clinical informatics initiatives to improve care delivery and patient outcomes. This position requires deep expertise in clinical care, health informatics, executive leadership, and change management to drive organizational transformation.

Working with stakeholders across all levels - leadership and clinical end-users at VAMC, VISN, and national levels - the Physician Informatics Executive aligns goals, fosters collaboration, and ensures successful EHR implementation. Key responsibilities include facilitating end-user adoption, resolving implementation challenges, and optimizing workflows with data-driven solutions.

The role also involves analyzing clinical data to inform quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning. The Physician Informatics Executive advises on and monitors informatics solutions to enhance patient safety and improve clinical outcomes. Acting as a bridge between technical teams and clinical stakeholders, the Physician Informatics Executive translates complex technical concepts into actionable insights that ensure shared understanding and alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate end-user adoption of EHR systems.
  • Resolve EHR implementation challenges effectively.
  • Optimize clinical workflows using data-driven approaches.
  • Analyze clinical data for quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise on and monitor informatics solutions for patient safety.
  • Bridge communication between technical and clinical teams.
  • Drive organizational transformation through health informatics.
  • Align stakeholder goals at all organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of total combined related work experience and completed higher education.
  • 5 or more years of clinical experience.
  • 2 or more years of Health Informatics experience.
  • Previous experience working with Oracle Health (Cerner) Electronic Health Record is strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership in change management and project execution.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster collaboration across all levels.
  • Passionate about improving healthcare through informatics and technology.
  • M.D. (Doctor of Medicine), D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), or degree in related field.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to client contract requirements.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate government security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% as needed.
