About the Role
The Accounting Manager will oversee core business accounting functions, including journal entries (JE's), account reconciliations, month-end close processes, financial reporting, and ensuring robust controls and audit compliance. This role involves managing a team of 3-4 accounting staff members. A key objective for the upcoming year is to identify and implement opportunities for functionalization, standardization, and overall process improvements within the business and across the region.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee staff in executing monthly SG&A, Other income, and Cash JE's, Recons, and Estimates.
- Coordinate month-end closing activities, reporting actuals and variances against forecasts to various stakeholders.
- Manage interdepartmental relationships and facilitate information sharing.
- Drive business structure evolution, create functional alignment, and enhance process efficiencies.
- Provide oversight for audit and control procedures.
- Engage in special projects as assigned.
- Research and resolve accounting issues.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience.
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, including Pivot Tables and V-Lookups.
- Familiarity working with large datasets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Hyperion Essbase and PeopleSoft Financials.
- Experience with month-end close procedures.
- Financial statement preparation experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, solve complex accounting issues, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proven oral and written communication skills.
- Adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
Work Arrangement
This position offers the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. However, employees located in or near the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. areas are required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. All remote employees must adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this role ranges from $91,700 to $163,700, based on factors such as local labor markets, education, experience, and certifications. In addition to salary, Optum offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401k contributions, subject to eligibility requirements.
