Job Description

About OpenGov Africa

Open Gov Africa - (Office of The Citizens) is a decentralized collaborative platform dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across African governments. By leveraging open data, we aim to empower citizens, track government activities, and ensure that public officials are accountable for their actions. The definition of citizens here is not just limited to office holders. Every citizen is in office via the elected/appointed official(s) who are called to serve the people. It is pertinent to note that because of the decentralised and open source nature of this project, it will continue till bad governance in Africa is corrected. To ensure continuity, there will be numerous maintainers to continue the good work of holding leaders accountable.

To support this, we are seeking a highly proactive and detail-oriented Executive Assistant. This is not a traditional administrative role as it goes beyond logistics & coordination. You will take ownership of actively sourcing, preparing, and submitting high-impact applications, including grants, fellowships, visa applications and speaking engagements, on behalf of the Head of Strategy. You will act as a high-trust Executive Assistant, supporting strategic priorities and ensuring the Head of Strategy can focus on high-impact opportunities, while you ensure seamless coordination of travel and priorities. What You’ll Do

  • Identify and track relevant grants, fellowships, and speaking opportunities
  • Prepare, draft, and support submissions for applications and proposals
  • Manage the Head of Strategy’s calendar, priorities, and key deadlines
  • Plan and coordinate travel logistics (flights, accommodation, itineraries, documentation)
  • Draft and edit strategic communications (emails, applications, outreach)
  • Maintain an organized pipeline of opportunities, applications, and outcomes
  • Conduct research to support partnerships, positioning, and decision-making
  • Track action items and ensure timely follow-through across engagements
  • Anticipate needs and proactively resolve scheduling or logistical challenges

What We’re Looking For

  • Assistants work live virtually through our virtual office, for 3 hours every week day from 9am - 12pm WAT. Please only apply if you’re free to do focused work from Monday-Friday at this time.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong writing ability, especially for applications, proposals, and professional communication
  • Ability to manage multiple high-stakes deadlines with attention to detail
  • Discretion in handling sensitive and high-level information
  • Familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, Discord, and willingness to learn GitHub
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to think ahead and take initiative
  • Interest in governance, civic tech, global development, or Africa-focused work

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct exposure to global opportunities in grants, fellowships, and speaking platforms
  • Experience supporting high-level strategy and external positioning
  • A strong portfolio of applications, partnerships, and global engagements
  • Expanded network across civic tech, governance, and international development
  • The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a growing pan-African movement
