The Knowledge Innovation team at OpenAI is dedicated to scaling the company with OpenAI's own technologies. They are building a model-powered knowledge system that evolves and learns with products, systems, and customers. The team leverages state-of-the-art models and technologies to assist or completely automate robust operations for both internal and external customers globally. They support various functions from customer support to integrity to product insights, operating as a self-contained, multi-disciplinary team with a fast feedback loop. The team emphasizes rapid iteration, long-term impact, and building simple primitives to apply world-class knowledge across many domains. Their work showcases the leverage possible with well-designed AI-based implementations, focusing on internal use cases like customer knowledge, automation, and automated agent systems to prove impact before scaling.

About The Role

OpenAI is seeking a Technical Program Manager with both operational and product expertise to lead a state-of-the-art ‘future of work’ initiative that supports all OpenAI products and customers. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product, Support, Sales, Research, and leadership to ensure well-designed strategy and products, efficient execution, and aligned stakeholder and partner relationships. You will work directly with the team building globally scaled automation and coordinate with multiple internal and vendor partners to define ambitious goals and milestones. A significant aspect of this role involves working with current and future customers and partners to define the future of operational work.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA, following a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is offered to new employees.

In This Role, You Will

  • Design and implement simple human/AI-cooperative processes that solve complex problems and adapt to constantly evolving business goals.
  • Create strong, aligned relationships with research, operations, sales, and product groups.
  • Successfully deliver high-profile, complex technical projects against tight deadlines, managing dependencies across multiple teams.
  • Effectively communicate progress, status, and risk to all stakeholders, from internal partners to strategic customers and leadership.
  • Increase structure in logistical processes throughout the entire lifecycle of development, creating technical roadmaps with milestones.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge bases, codifying best practices and sharing insights gained from customer engagements to scale Forward Deployed Engineering and Technical Program Management functions.

You Might Thrive In This Role If You

  • Have 7+ years experience as a Technical Program Manager or similar role, managing complex technical programs at a large scale.
  • Possess a vision or ambition for how AI can redefine operational knowledge work.
  • Have support and deep operational experience (a must).
  • Have experience working with strategic customers and partners (a must).
  • Possess a strong track record of execution in delivering ambitious goals on complex cross-functional projects.
  • Exhibit exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Have a bias for action and willingness to work iteratively with your customers to deliver the right solution that solves their problem.
