About The Team
OpenAI's Human Data Team is dedicated to creating custom data solutions that drive groundbreaking research. Our efforts directly enhance and evaluate flagship models and products like ChatGPT, GPT-4, and Sora. We also play a crucial role in safety initiatives by collaborating closely with the Preparedness and Safety Systems teams.
About The Role
As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) in the Human Data team, you will be a pivotal link between research and engineering. Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement pragmatic solutions for collecting high-quality data. This role requires you to be a key interface, connecting our research roadmap with external vendors, AI trainers, and the Human Data engineering team.
In This Role, You Will
- Collaborate with Research: Partner with researchers to define data collection needs, establish success metrics, and create quality measurement frameworks.
- Design & Execute Data Collection Campaigns: Translate research requirements into actionable plans, accelerating execution by utilizing existing tools and iterating to achieve desired outcomes. This often involves implementing novel, agile solutions while partnering with engineering for robust and scalable designs.
- Unblock Yourself: Demonstrate a proactive mindset, possessing the technical acumen and drive to overcome external dependencies and achieve at least partial success independently.
- Optimize Systems & Processes: Develop and refine dashboards to monitor campaign performance, utilizing SQL and Python for in-depth data analysis and generating actionable insights.
- Drive Technical Roadmaps: Work collaboratively with engineers to enhance data platforms, address technical blockers, and ensure adherence to security best practices, including effective access management.
- Scale Your Impact: Provide guidance and empower program managers and vendors to manage day-to-day execution, allowing you to concentrate on high-priority strategic opportunities.

- Are proficient in SQL and Python for data analysis, including querying databases, processing large datasets, and extracting actionable insights.
- Possess proficiency in Python for interacting with various tools via APIs, encompassing sending requests, processing responses, and integrating functionalities into comprehensive workflows.
- Are skilled in SQL for developing analytics dashboards, including writing complex queries, optimizing data retrieval, and visualizing insights for informed decision-making.
- Have a strong foundational understanding of how Large Language Models (LLMs) operate and possess expertise in prompt engineering.
- Are excited to delve into the technicalities of cutting-edge AI research and collaborate closely with researchers from the initial concept to launch.
