About The Team

The Intelligence and Investigations team rapidly identifies and mitigates abuse and strategic risks to ensure a safe online ecosystem. The team is dedicated to detecting emerging abuse trends, analyzing risks, and implementing effective mitigation strategies to protect against misuse. Their efforts support OpenAI's mission of developing AI that benefits humanity.

About The Role

As a Quantitative Threat Forecasting Analyst, you will design and deploy statistical models that forecast threat emergence, detect anomalies, and quantify risk under challenging conditions. Your work will support both tactical responses to abuse and strategic decisions regarding safety detection and analysis systems.

In This Role, You Will

  • Design probabilistic and Bayesian models to capture large-scale uncertainty.
  • Build classical and deep-learning forecasts for time-series problems.
  • Develop real-time anomaly-detection pipelines for ML telemetry data.
  • Apply survival analysis and rare-event methods to model threat lifecycles.
  • Run stress tests and Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate low-frequency threats.
  • Collaborate with investigations, engineering, and policy teams for data driven decisions.
  • Communicate insights using briefs, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Own production pipelines using Python, JAX, PyTorch or R alongside data engineering tools.

You Might Thrive In This Role If You

  • Have 5+ years in quantitative research, forecasting, or risk modeling.
  • Showcase expertise in statistical inference and uncertainty quantification.
  • Have a history of shipping models that inform big decisions.
  • Are fluent with modern toolchains and possess strong coding skills.
  • Communicate clearly with multidisciplinary and executive teams.
