About The Team
The Monetization team at OpenAI is a new cross-functional group spanning engineering, product, research, and design. Our mission is to build foundational systems that scale access to intelligence responsibly, developing user-first, privacy-preserving monetization products, including next-generation ads experiences. This strengthens user trust, unlocks economic opportunity, and supports OpenAI’s long-term innovation. Monetization is crucial for OpenAI to advance AI capabilities while ensuring AGI benefits are widely shared. We believe monetization must align with user value, rigorous privacy/safety standards, and a healthy developer/business ecosystem. This team operates in a greenfield environment, moving quickly through prototyping, experimentation, and iterative deployment, partnering closely with Product, Design, and Research to bring research breakthroughs into real-world systems at global scale.
About The Role

Design is critical in upholding these principles. We are hiring a Product Designer, Monetization to help define responsible, transparent, and user-first monetization and advertising systems for AI-native products, setting a new industry standard. This team shapes how advertising lives within ChatGPT for millions, focusing on designing systems and interactions seamlessly woven into the product—deeply contextual, highly relevant, and genuinely useful. The ambition is for these systems to feel additive, helping users discover meaningful products/services while preserving trust, clarity, and coherence.
In This Role, You Will
- Define the vision for an AI-native advertising experience for millions of users.
- Design advertising formats and interactions that feel additive to the core ChatGPT experience—relevant, contextual, and thoughtfully integrated.
- Build a new set of advertising products from the ground up in a fast-moving, zero-to-one environment.
- Partner with product, engineering, research, and policy teams to define new ads surfaces, systems, and workflows.
- Design user-facing controls for ad personalization, data usage, opt-out flows, and intuitive advertiser interfaces for responsible campaign management.
- Navigate complex tradeoffs between business needs, user trust, and long-term platform health.
- Create thoughtful artifacts to align cross-functional teams and guide execution across consumer and console experiences.
- Contribute to a design culture that values clarity, restraint, and responsibility as much as craft.

Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing digital products; more senior candidates welcome.
- Experience with consumer products, ads and monetization is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with design systems and complex interaction patterns.

- Proficiency with Figma and modern design workflows.
