OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team partners with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems. We operate at the intersection of customer delivery and core platform development.

About The Role

As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer, you will build effective custom software leveraging OpenAI’s APIs to solve real customer problems. You will work closely with customers and internal teams to design and implement scalable, full-stack solutions.

• Design abstractions and scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Solutions Engineering, and Customer Success.
• Work side-by-side with customers as a technical expert.
• Provide actionable product feedback to Research and Applied teams.
• Develop both proof-of-concepts and production systems.

Responsibilities

You will embed with strategic customers to understand their business and technical challenges. Responsibilities include designing, architecting, and developing full-stack solutions using an iterative and experimental approach, preparing scopes of work, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.

Requirements

Applicants should have at least 7 years of professional full-stack engineering experience, with a customer-facing background in tech companies. Experience with relational databases such as Postgres/MySQL is required. Previous startup experience and a hands-on approach are a plus.
