About The Role
Ontra is seeking a Staff Data Scientist reporting to our Senior Manager, Data Science.

We’re looking for someone excited to harness data-driven insights, collaborate closely with product GM/VP, and strategically influence product development and business outcomes.
If you are an experienced data scientist with a knack for measurement architecture, possess strong product and business judgment, excel in executive storytelling, and have a proven track record of bar-raising influence, all while being self-directed in ambiguous environments, we’d love to get to know you!
What You’ll Do
- Product Data Strategy: Collaborate with product GM/VP to harness data-driven insights for enhancing business outcomes and shaping the product's strategic direction.
- Analytical Leadership: Conduct in-depth analysis to inform and influence the product roadmap, ensuring decisions are grounded in solid data insights.
- Collaborative Partnership: Work closely with the VP of Product to align data science initiatives with strategic product goals and objectives.
- Executive Communication: Develop and deliver compelling data narratives to executive teams to effectively communicate findings and drive decision-making.
- Mentorship and Development: Guide and mentor team members, fostering a learning environment and continuously raising the standard for the data team.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience: 8+ years in data science, analytics, or applied quantitative work, with at least 2 years at a Senior or higher level. Strong preference for tech lead or manager experience.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in advanced SQL and fluency in Python or R for conducting analytical workflows.
- Product Impact: Proven ability to drive measurable outcomes on products using data, including setting metric frameworks such as north star metrics, funnels, and guardrails.
- Stakeholder Influence: Demonstrated ability to present to and influence stakeholders at the VP level or higher.
- Team Development: Experience in enhancing the capabilities of the broader data team, with tech lead experience strongly preferred.

Some positions may be eligible for additional compensation, such as commission, variable compensation, profits interest units, or other equity-based compensation, which are not included in the below base pay range.
