Technical Claims Specialist Casualty

Overview

The Technical Claims Specialist Casualty at Oliver James is responsible for managing complex, high-exposure casualty claims including litigated matters and severe injury losses while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. This role carries settlement authority, oversight of defense counsel, and the mentorship of junior team members.

Responsibilities

The candidate will:

• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex claims timely and in compliance with regulations.
• Analyze coverage, determine liability, set reserves, and negotiate settlements within authority.
• Direct defense counsel and manage litigation strategy and associated expenses.
• Communicate effectively with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and internal teams.
• Mentor junior team members and share knowledge to support team development.
• Participate in mediations, depositions, trials, and claim reviews as required.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, ideally with experience in General or Professional Liability claims. An active adjuster license with ongoing continuing education compliance is necessary. Approximately 8+ years of progressive claims handling experience is required, along with strong negotiation, investigation, and communication skills. Litigation experience is also required.
