Paralegal, Labor & Employment
Our Austin, TX office has an opportunity for an experienced Paralegal to join our Labor & Employment practice.
Position Summary
The Paralegal assists in investigating facts, including reviewing and summarizing discovery and other case documents, and managing the discovery process. The Paralegal also prepares draft legal documents such as pleadings and discovery for review, approval, and use by attorney. The Paralegal supports attorneys in preparations for trial, arbitration, court hearings, depositions, and mediations.
Essential Functions
- Investigates facts and independently prepares summaries and other documents to assist attorneys with matters.
- Drafts a variety of legal documents and prepares exhibits, in compliance with court rules and procedures (state and federal).
- Summarizes complex legal documents.
- Tracks and manages case discovery.
- Organizes and indexes case files.
- Determines and calendars deadlines and prepares status updates.
- Performs wide variety of research and data compilation with little or no supervision.
- Files pleadings with court clerk (state and federal).
- Prepares reports, correspondence, declarations and draft discovery.
- Assists Attorneys in preparation for depositions, mediation, hearings, arbitration, and trials.
- Assists Attorneys at trial (state and federal) and arbitration.
- Communicates with witnesses and experts.
- Enters billing and expense data into Firm system in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Paralegal certification / degree from an accredited college or university.
- 6+ years of paralegal experience, preferably working in a labor/employment litigation practice.
- Proficient in all Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Lexis-Nexis and WestLaw, Live Note, Concordance, Case Map, Docketing, Document Management System, expense and billing systems.
