Role Overview

Are you an experienced cable design professional looking to lead the coordination of HV cable systems on critical energy infrastructure projects? As an Underground Circuit Design Coordinator at OCU, you will lead the development and coordination of cable system designs from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Coordination: Manage and coordinate internal and external cable system designers ensuring technically robust, compliant designs.
  • Feasibility Reporting: Prepare route feasibility and proving reports for early-stage optioneering.
  • Survey Management: Plan and manage cable route surveys including GPR, trial holes, topographical and utility surveys.
  • Permits & Consents: Support applications for streetworks permits, environmental consents, and wayleave agreements.
  • HDD & Trenchless Design: Coordinate HDD and trenchless crossings alongside specialist designers.
  • Substation Interface: Ensure cable terminations align with substation layouts.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with local authorities, DNOs, statutory bodies, and private landowners.
  • Technical Assurance: Maintain compliance with DNO standards, safety regulations, and national codes.
  • Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Collaborate with civil, electrical, protection, and control designers.

Experience & Skills

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, or power systems engineering (or equivalent) and proven experience in HV cable system design or route coordination, ideally within a DNO, ICP, or TSO environment. A strong understanding of underground cable installation techniques, trenchless solutions (HDD), and familiarity with DNO standards are essential.

Excellent coordination, communication, and organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to interpret survey outputs and deliver clear engineering recommendations.
