Position Overview - Apprentice Epic Clinical Analyst
The Apprentice Epic Clinical Analyst is an entry-level, 12-month program designed to provide hands-on experience in supporting the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications. Under the guidance of experienced analysts, this role will assist in system build, testing, and end-user support, while learning the fundamentals of healthcare workflows and Epic functionality.
Essential Duties
- Assist with Epic Configuration: Support customization and configuration of Epic applications to meet organizational needs.
- Workflow Analysis: Observe and document clinical and administrative workflows to understand system requirements.
- Testing & Validation: Participate in testing new builds, upgrades, and patches to ensure accuracy and functionality.
- End-User Support: Help troubleshoot basic issues and escalate complex problems to experienced analysts.
- Training Support: Assist in creating user guides and training materials for member staff.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of system changes, workflows, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaboration: Work closely with experienced analysts and clinical teams to learn best practices in healthcare IT.
- Engage in training and development activities to build analytical and technical skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of an OCHIN workforce training program or similar experience (e.g., prior role within OCHIN, member site, or similar organization) preferred.
- Epic proficiency in Clinical Applications must be obtained within 60-days of employment.
- Interest in data analysis, problem solving and continuous learning.
- Basic understanding of healthcare operations and EHR systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Strong computer literacy and willingness to learn new tools and systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Prior to the team interview, all candidates are required to complete a 50–60-minute competency assessment. This assessment provides insights into how your strengths, preferences, and work style align with OCHIN's nine core competencies, focusing on fit and success.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
This role involves constant interpersonal skills, teamwork, and customer service, with frequent creativity, mentoring, presentations, and teaching. Occasional decision-making and independent judgment are required. The ability to read, speak, write, and understand English is essential. The employee will regularly sit for long periods, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position operates in a virtual home-office environment, requiring remote work and employees to be on camera for all virtual meetings. Standard office equipment such as computers and mobile devices are routinely used.
Work Location and Travel Requirements
OCHIN is a 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location. Employees work remotely from home. While some positions support member organizations on-site for new software installations, no travel is required for this specific Apprentice Epic Clinical Analyst role. Work from home requirements include the ability to work independently and efficiently from a distraction-free home office environment with high-speed internet service.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
OCHIN requires all employees—including remote employees, contractors, interns, and new hires—to be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment, as supported by state and federal public health officials. All new hires must provide proof of full vaccination or receive approval for a medical or religious exemption before their hire date.
