Research Nurse

Position Summary

Join our team as a Research Nurse to observe patients' clinical responses and the therapeutic efficacy of drugs and other measures, contributing to both teaching and clinical research goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • ADMINISTRATIVE: Ensure proper completion and filing of consents, protocols, and forms. Record clinical information, collect data, and promptly report adverse reactions or issues to the clinician.
  • PLANNING: Meet regularly with clinicians to review and evaluate research projects. Participate in staff meetings.
  • CLINICAL: Screen potential study candidates and administer test medications/treatments per protocol, documenting observations. Monitor patient progress and respond to untoward reactions, apprising the clinician immediately. Apply evidence-based research findings to clinical settings and maintain a safe environment.
  • AGE-SPECIFIC STANDARDS: Demonstrate understanding of growth and development principles for all age groups served. Assess and adapt treatment based on age-specific patient needs.
  • STAFF/PATIENT EDUCATION: Provide patients and families with instructions regarding protocols, medications, and disease management.
  • PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: Engage in self-evaluation, set improvement goals, and stay updated with nursing standards and professional trends. Seek independent learning experiences and share significant research literature findings.
  • CONTINUOUS LEARNING: Participate in ongoing research training programs. Maintain expertise in the area of practice and complete 10 CEUs in continuing research education annually. Serve as a resource to peers and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • TIME MANAGEMENT: Work flexible hours, set priorities, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • COMMUNICATION/DOCUMENTATION: Accurately document all medication and treatment administration. Maintain records of supplies and investigational drugs as per regulations. Assist with study conclusion reports and research papers. Ensure accuracy and completeness of all records.
  • COLLABORATION: Communicate with other health professionals to implement research. Collaborate with regulatory coordinators and participate in departmental/institutional committees.
  • PUBLICATION: Contribute to and publish research findings. Communicate findings to staff and prepare reports/abstracts for conferences and publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • NYS RN License with current registration.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or equivalent education/experience with plans to obtain a BSN.
  • Prior RN experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Experience with specific indications (department-specific).
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Internet applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all management levels and work collaboratively or independently.
  • Commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, manage time, multitask, and prioritize work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is highly preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all organizational levels.
