Job Description
Research Associate - Torres-Vázquez Lab
NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to join the Torres-Vázquez Lab. This lab utilizes transparent zebrafish embryos to investigate blood and lymphatic vessel formation and function in normal development and disease. The role involves conducting basic science research under the mentorship of a senior scientist, with a focus on building a research portfolio for future advanced degrees.
Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental scientific experiments using established protocols.
- Analyze results, generate reliable data and figures, and assist with scientific reports, publications, and grant proposals.
- Gain hands-on experience in a research environment and deepen understanding of biomedical science.
- Contribute to fostering scientific growth and professional development.
- Generate hypotheses, design, and perform experiments to test them.
- Train graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in experimental design and techniques.
- Edit and proofread grant proposals, reports, and manuscripts.
- Present findings at lab meetings and participate in scientific discussions.
- Demonstrate intellectual input into project design and suggest modifications to protocols.
- Record, analyze, and interpret all experimental findings in a laboratory notebook.
- Execute multiple experiments simultaneously and independently over time.
Minimum Qualifications
- College graduate with a B.S. or B.A. in Biomedical or Physical Sciences.
- Minimum commitment of two years; placement may not exceed three years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology, genetics, confocal microscopy, developmental or vascular biology, a genetically amenable model organism (e.g., zebrafish), and data analysis.
- Self-motivation, strong sense of responsibility, solid quantitative skills, and ability to learn independently.
- Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
